55: A Place of Worship DONE!

Assumption Abbey, Richardton, ND July 26, 2010. We stopped to check out the abbey on a whim on our day trip with Grandma to Dickinson. We'd all driven by it but none of us had ever stopped there before. We weren't even sure what an abbey was to be honest...turned out to be Catholic. Benedictine monks. The church was pretty amazing...

When we asked the guy in the visitor's office if we could see the inside of the church, he said, "Sure, just go down that hallway and go through the heavy metal door. The lights are on the wall on the left." It was like we had asked to use the bathroom or something. So we went in to this completely breathtaking church and turned the lights on and took a look around. Completely empty and unguarded and casual. We had the whole place to ourselves. It was a very North Dakota moment.

We all gave our third eyes a good squeegee with holy water. It was a very pretty holy water overflowing fountain thing. The stained glass was out of control awesome...who would have guessed something like this existed right in the middle of the prairie?!?
