53: An Amazing Architectural Achievement DONE!

Aerial Lift Bridge, Duluth, MN. August 2012. This amazing bridge spans the Duluth Ship Canal. It was built in 1905 and was a transporter bridge, just one of two ever built in the United States. Wikipedia tells me that it takes about 3 minutes for it go all the way up, and that during the busy shipping season it goes up and down 25-30 times a day. Amazing that it's over 100 years old and still used daily.

We ate lunch on an outdoor patio right next to the bridge (until it started raining and we had to move inside) and we got to see it go up and down a few times from up close. We mostly saw sailboats and and a couple of sightseeing boats go through. We also drove across it and back accidentally when we were looking for a parking spot!
