38: A Wetland DONE!

Theodore Wirth Quaking Bog, Minneapolis, MN. June 2014. We went on a little bit of a hike today and discovered that the floating trail through the bog encircles something called "Mariana's Isle," so that was cool (that's Rowan's middle name). The trail was sinking and kind of a mess, probably from the high water levels.

We played a game along the way where we could earn "wildlife points" for spotting interesting flora or fauna. Amaranth was the winner with 6 points, and her best finds were sunfish, a little toad, and a beautiful wild iris.

We got a little lost at first, but things got much better when I handed off the map to Cook and put him in charge of navigation. The ambiance was lessened slightly because someone was mowing the trails all around us as we walked. The fresh clippings also bothered Rowan because they made her princess shoes dirty.

Ama's wild iris. After the bog, we went to Wirth Lake and it was so hot we all wished we had our swimming suits so we could swim at the beach there. They had a bunch of very cool playground equipment, and we had a picnic at a breezy picnic table under a shady tree. It was a nice day!
