48: A Gateway to a New World DONE!
Yellowstone River, Paradise Valley, MT. August 2010. The Yellowstone was explored in 1806 by William Clark during the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which was the first overland expedition by the United States to the Pacific coast and back. At the time of the Louisiana Purchase (in 1803) the U.S. didn't really know what it was buying, and France had no idea how much land it was actually selling. The success of the Lewis and Clark Expedition sparked the flood of westward expansion that "settled" the west. (Thank you Wikipedia!)
So we didn't have to explore anything, we just went white water rafting. Cook was sitting front and center in the raft - he's got his mouth wide open like this in almost all the pictures! It was a wicked fun time~
