Alaska Sea Life Center, Seward, AK. August 2011. While we were in Alaska for Eric's wedding, caravan of relatives made the long drive to Seward. It was really beautiful, and thankfully the aquarium seemed to make the drive worth it for all of the kids. The aquarium is right in the Seward harbor area, which is incredibly picturesque, and it was only a short walk to a little shopping area where we had lunch.
This was a "touching" aquarium that was really shallow so that you could touch anemones, starfish, and other sea creatures. Cook was the brave one. Ama wasn't quite ready to try it.
This was a kids play area where you could put on a life vest and pretend to work on a crab boat. There were zillions of plastic crabs that the kids threw around and had a great time with. Other favorite things were seeing jellyfish and watching puffins dive down into the water. We watched the puffins from above the water's surface, and then went underneath and saw how deep they were able to dive. We also saw wild sea otters playing in the ocean from the aquarium's balcony.
